Community Games

Hey all, here is some gameplay footage from Left 4 Kodu. A survival game from El Bishi. It's still early in the games development, I believe El Bishi just started developing it yesterday. I enjoy it though. I haven't been able to try out multiplayer yet but I plan to. I would like to see different colored bullets and maybe a powerup that speeds up your fish. The neat thing is, I can easily make these changes myself and send the game back to El Bishi, or anyone else!!

I was checking out the XNA forums and it looks like someone has rejected Kodu, for framerate issues when a high number of objects are on the screen. If someone else fails it the game will be put in "jail" for a week and then it can be placed into review again. :(

  1. The moron is probably releasing a game tommorow and doesn't want it hindering his sales.

  3. Ok on a positive note, Left 4 Kodu looks awesome. Though I'd be interested in taking the concept to a larger scale. Like a time limit you need to survive before a saucer comes and rescues you. Similar to the real Left 4 Dead. Also, why not some special infected? ;)

Well these ideas are for when we get better at programming this stuff, for now this early on this looks really cool.

  6. (El Bishi)
@Darth: Each player has their own coloured bullets already, and if you can add a speed up powerup, tell me how :p

@Anon: I can add a time limit that acts as a win condition, and I can add some special infected, although due to the way I've koded the current zombies they won't be that great.

  7. How is framerate issues a bug????

Isn't it common sense that if your going to make your world huge and populate it with hundreds of objects on screen at once then it's going to have framerate issues, christ i've bought 'AAA' titles that have framerate issues when the screen is crowded.

  8. GT: Hart91 (add me to share Kode when it's out)

I wonder what that 'someone's attitude would be if he/she hadn't got a premium XNA club membership and was unable to get there hands on KODU to play with?. Framerate issues? OMG give me a break, if it was a FPS I could understand but surely half the challenge of KODU will be understanding it's limitations and then being as creative as possible within those limits. You may not be able to have too many bots on-screen at once but this should make you think about how you can still make your creations fluid and fun!. I going to remain hopeful, and besides it will all be good when it's released, whenever that might be!. Peace.

  9. the tension is killing me make sure you update this with review progress as soon as you can. :'(

  10. @Darth: I managed to make the speed powerup work, it's awesome. Also ignore my message on XBL, I managed to recover it.

@Hart91: I had to make ALOT of tweaks with the zombie spawning in L4K so the FPS stayed reasonable.

I'm also making a *real* RTS now (Kommand & Kodu 2) with location aware units that you can actually control individually (or in groups), and you can also build structures this time.

  11. Hehe, Kommand & Kodu XD! Now I get why they called it Kodu, it's perfect for everything.

Anyway, above person, you have access to XNA? What's the review progress so far :X?

  12. To be honest I dont really dont understand these peer review rules too much.
So just a short uqestion - is there still some small chance, that Kodu will be available for download today? Or is it now clear, that it still needs few days (even if it will not be in jail)?

Just want to know if I should look forward for it. Or just take it as another posponed game?

  13. seriously, this wait is killing me.

  14. ^ Agreed, lol. I keep refreshing this blog and the Kodu blog to wait for news of it's review progress.

So there is at some chance? (because I have no idea if MS has some policy like "peer process takes at least 3 days and then it takes 2-5 days till we upload it to the marketplace")
So if it is now i 66 percent of review... Im starting panic that there is no way to release it today :-/

  16. @Agarwel Idiriz:

As far as I'm aware, there technically is hope. If it was to pass right now, people have said that sometime it can take only minutes for it to be put up. But the *maximum* to wait for a game to be put up is 48 hrs.

In other words (if it passes today), it could technically be released within minutes, or 48 hours :(.

  17. Ok. Thanks. Sounds like a good news and a little bit of hope. Unfortunatelly I iwll be slave of refesh for the rest of day :-/

  18. Apparently peer review is now closed, so i'm assuming thats good news and it should be available shortly.

  25. Well, I checked the review page and reviewing is indeed closed. It either passed or failed. I hope it appears on Marketplace shortly.

The latest game to be released on the community games channel is Shiatsu Massage. It had its last passing review at about 6:25 am this morning according to xna forums. its 10 am where I am and Shiatus Massage is on the marketplace.

We will have to wait for an official word from the devs now, or see if Kodu appears on the marketplace page. I hope it does.

    ReplyDelete
  26. i hope it didn't fail.
    that would be depressing.

  29. Does anybody have he idea how long it can take till we will at least know when Kodu will be released?

    ReplyDelete
  30. Keep in mind that it may show up under "K" in the "All Community Games" list before it shows up in the "New Arrivals" Section. At least that was the case with the Shiatsu game.

Hi guys, I'm waiting for more info too. Microsoft is a big company. I've got a few conflicting reports so I don't want to stir the pot too much until I've got a solid resolution.

  40. Look under K in community games the store page is up for it.

  41. Yup, its there. Downloading.

  42. Had a chance to play with it a bit. Its fascinating. Although it is in desperate need of a) A good wiki/FAQ/guide to give you good ideas on how to approach different things (3 person camera, different types of character controls, camera control, etc) and b) a better way to share levels. Its pretty restrictive right now.

    No Xbox.com forum yet either.
